Top Methods for Generating Traffic to Your Blog

The Give And Take Method:
Blogging traffic is, by nature of blogging itself, a give and take relationship. Therefore, the top method to get traffic to your blog is by visiting someone else’s blog.
Go to their blog and read some of their entries. Chances are that you are going to find something that you have in common.
When you find something that you find truly interesting on a blog, leave a comment so that they know that you were there.
However, make sure that you do not leave a generic comment. If you like the post, say something about what you read in the post. Don’t make them feel like you’re just fishing for traffic, because if you do chances are they won’t visit your site and your efforts will be wasted
After you have commented on the person’s post, then you can say something like, ‘I really like horseback riding too. I had a similar experience to yours.’ and then use it to link back to your journal.
The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Method:
Having a blog on the Internet that gives people some good information doesn’t do a lot of good if people don’t know that it’s there. This is where SEO comes in. And it is a very important step towards more traffic to your blog, via what is called organic search engine traffic. One of the most targeted, quality traffic sources available today.
Whenever you put one or more words into a search bar to look for something, the SEO of a web site is what helps bring up those web sites.
For example, if your blog is about Harry Potter, you are going to want to be sure that your blog includes popular terms such as Harry Pottter, JK Rowling, and other things that are related to Harry Potter.
There are other factors, as well, that come into play that determine where your blog will come up in the list of sites found on the search engine, but the most important place to start is with the keywords related to your blog.
The more keywords that your blog uses, the more people will come to your blog. It just takes time and patience.
The Blogging Directories Method:
After you have optimized for search engines your next powerful method is to hit the directories. But not just any directory, blogging directories. Because who else better to seek visitors from then in an environment that is filled with only bloggers? They are already interested in blogs and most certainly are looking for other bloggers to interact and visa versa.
In addition, most blog directories list the indexed blog sites by specific topics. This means your blog and its related niche will generate pre-qualified interested traffic much easier.
Two of the top blog directories are – Blog Catalog and blog-directory.org. There are many more and you will find a huge list by Clicking Here.
Blog Catalog is a free blog directory that offers categories such as career and jobs, writing, Iraq, and many others. It has features such as featured blogs and other things to offer those who submit their blog there.
Blog-Directory.org has a list of categories with sub categories and also you can get your blog reviewed, see the amount of hits that blogs have received and if they have any reviews. As well as listing by category, you can also find blogs by location.
There are many other blog directories on the Internet; these are only a couple of them. Blog directories are a without a doubt one of the top places to get your blog noticed and bring people to read your blog and look at your pictures.
The Social Networking / Community Method:
The next top method in the list is social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, just to name a few. This method takes a little time, like all good resources, but it can be very rich in generating traffic to your blog.
The beauty of these sites is once again they give you the ability to target the exact niche of your blog. Via the various niche related communities, that defines social networking sites. This is the same thing as categories within a directory. You simply join communities you are interested in where you can socialize with like-minded people.
The same warning applies here as it does when posting comments on someone else’s blog, you do not want people to think that you joined a community simply to get traffic to your blog. Otherwise, people will not visit your blog and those in charge can ban you from the community as well. Being genuine is the success key here. You must put in some effort.
The Blogger Forums Method:
No matter what type of blog that you have, one of the best places that you can advertise your blog is to join a blogger forum. Because just as blog directories, everyone who posts in a blog forum has a blog and that is the main subject. Making these blog related forums a top place to meet other bloggers and to advertise your blog.
You can sign up on the Internet up for quite a few blogger forums. But to show you an example of how one of them works, there is one known as Bloggeries, where you can show off your blog, get your blog reviewed or review other blogs, and find lots of tools that you can use for your own blog.
Always remember that in forums the need for etiquette is even more important than in some of the methods mentioned above. When you are posting to a forum read all rules and follow them religiously. That way you will get your blog noticed and you will know that you are doing the right thing.
The Blog Carnival Method:
A Blog Carnival is a particular kind of blog community. There are many kinds of blogs, and they contain articles on many kinds of topics. Blog Carnivals typically collect together links pointing to blog articles on a particular topic. A Blog Carnival is like a magazine. It has a title, a topic, editors, contributors, and an audience.
Submitting to blog carnivals, such as the manual send list found here, or via inexpensive software like the Blog Carnival Submitter, is another powerful method that can get you targeted traffic to the subject of your blog.
Targeted traffic is the easiest to turn into buyers of the related products you post about or have advertised on your blog.
The Email Signature Method:
Do not under estimate the power of this simple to implement method. You might be surprised who may not realize you have a blog and whom they might end up telling.
Chances are… you send out emails more times than you can count during the day. Each time you send out an email, you can advertise your blog by putting the address of your blog in your email signature.
The key to this method is to make it short but catchy. Just as if it is with any advertisement, you want to give them just enough to be interested and take a closer look at what it is that you are advertising.
Think about what it is that your blog is about. What is really going to interest people about it and want to make them visit your blog?
Ok there you have it… Use these top methods for generating traffic to your blog. You will up your rankings in Google, meet some interesting people and have your blog pay you back for all that hard work!
