Banner Advertising Still a Viable Traffic Generation Method

Banner advertising is still a highly effective traffic generation method if used properly. However, placing your banner ad all over the Internet with very little consideration to whether or not the location is likely to be beneficial to your business is not a good idea and can be a tremendous waste of money as well as other resources such as time and effort.

Business owners who are considering using banner advertising to promote their business on the Internet should spend some time on how to use this method effectively.

Even if you opt to use a free banner ad exchange, where you get to place your banner on other member’s web sites in exchange for placing theirs on your site, you will want to get the most from it so as not to waste your valuable time for minimal results. I.e. being able to select web site categories that best suit what your banner is advertising.

All banner ads appear on a web site in the form of a combination of various size graphics with text on them describing what your business is all about. The more enticing the text on the banner and the quality of the image itself is essential to how many clicks your banner will receive.

Below you will find some points to consider before and during your banner advertising campaigns.

Banner Design – You will want to use the best design you can to attract the reader’s eye. But equally important is what the banner says to the person once they look at it. The same principles of a good classified ad apply here. Simple not too wordy, direct to your point and a powerful call to action, such as click here for limited time offer or click here while still free, etc.

Targeting – The most ideal location for a banner ad is prominently displayed on a web site which receives a great deal of web site traffic and also complements your products and services well without providing direct competition for your products or services. Also where possible target your banners to the specific theme of the site you are advertising on if it is an advertising site and you can put an advertising spin on your product you will increase the click through ratio by quite a bit because people visiting that site are already interested in advertising.

Testing – Try out different banner designs both the layout / look of them and what they say. This is best done on a free banner exchange, where you have more freedom to change the banner any time you want. But you should opt for exchanges that let you target your banner ads to specific categories and different types of web sites. Then once you have a good banner that gets you a high click through rate, then you will be more apt to get your money’s worth out of paying for banner advertising.

Tracking – After you have your banner ad up and running don’t leave it at that. Watch the results. Test different banners if you don’t get clicks, etc. Because most paid sites sell you banner advertising in either a certain amount of impressions or a time limit such as 30 days it is imperative that you get the best results with your banner advertising as you can within the limited time you have to do it.

Put all the above to work for you every time you choose to use banner advertising and you will be guaranteed the best results you can get.
